My June Playlist!

June is over!  I can't believe how quickly this year is going.  I hope you have all been having an awesome Summer so far!  I have been pretty busy but I love it.  July is going to be even busier and very exciting.  So stay tuned to my blog for all the action.  I'm loving my playlist for this month.  It's a very good mixture and a great way to kick off my favorite season.  You can check out last month's playlist here.  What songs are you listening to?  Let me know!

1. Fight Song by Rachel Platten
I can not get enough of this song!  I've had this on repeat for pretty much the entire month.  It's just one of those songs that I never get tired of.  I love the message behind it as well.  It's all about never giving up on your dream.  No matter what dream you have you just need to go for it!  I really need to check out more of her music.  Favorite lyric: This is my fight song Take back my life song Prove I'm alright song My power's turned on Starting right now I'll be strong I'll play my fight song And I don't really care if nobody else believes 'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

2. Fun by Pitbull feat. Chris Brown
The title totally fits this song!  I love the beat because it makes you want to dance.  It sounds like a mixture of the 90's and techno.  This has been added to my morning playlist.  It just instantly makes you happy when you hear it.  I think this will become the party anthem of 2015.  It also really makes me miss Miami!  Favorite lyric: Loosen up your body till you come undone Loosen up your body baby come undone Oh my my, looking like a good good time Don't disguise The way you wanna love tonight Oh my my, hook you with a brand new high Don't be shy, I just wanna live tonight Live a little F.U.N. fun

3. Cheerleader by OMI
I love this song SO much!  It makes me feel happy.  I really love the beachy vibe it gives off.  Sadly I live in Nebraska so there are no beaches but I can dream!  I find this song refreshing because it's not about being a player.  It's basically an upbeat love song which all girls love.  Other artists should take note!  Favorite lyric: Do you need me? 4. Take Your Time by Sam Hunt
I only heard the very end of this song but I was hooked instantly.  It has a rap/country vibe that I really like.  For some reason I've been listening to a lot of country music lately.  He doesn't seem like a country singer which is good.  He is reaching a broader audience this way.  I think the song is really cute too.  I'm a fan!  Favorite lyric: I don't wanna steal your freedom I don't wanna change your mind I don't have to make you love me I just wanna take your time I don't wanna wreck your Friday I ain't gonna waste my lines I don't have to take your heart I just wanna take your time

5. Marvin Gaye by Charlie Puth feat. Meghan Trainor
You probably recognize this name from his hit song See You Again.  I'm constantly looking for new stuff on YouTube and I came across this song.  It's always stuck in my head!  It has a modern 60's vibe which I love.  I am obsessed with the 50's and 60's.  Also his voice is just SO amazing!  I'm officially in love with him!  Favorite lyric: Let's Marvin Gaye and get it on You got the healing that I want Just like they say it in the song Until the dawn, let's Marvin Gaye and get it on You got to give it up to me I'm screaming mercy, mercy please Just like they say it in the song Until the dawn, let's Marvin Gaye and get it on

6. Pretty Fly For A White Guy by The Offspring
This song is a total throwback and I'll be SUPER impressed if you guys know it.  For some reason I could not get away from this song all month.  It played on Spotify, iTunes, and even the radio.  I forgot how much I loved it though.  I was obsessed when it came out in the 90's and I even had it on one of my high school mix CD's.  It's just a classic.  Favorite lyric: Now he's getting a tattoo Yeah he's gettin' ink done He asked for a '13', but they drew a '31' Friends say he's trying too hard And he's not quite hip But in his own mind He's the dopest trip.

7. Doin' What She Likes by Blake Shelton
I have been loving Blake Shelton recently.  I heard this while I was at a baseball game and it stuck with me.  I just can't get enough of him!  I'm not sure why I didn't listen to his music sooner.  This song is very sweet and the video totally fits his personality.  I can't wait to discover more songs by him.  Favorite lyric: She likes hearin' how good she looks in them blue jeans Little kisses, sweeter than sweet tea Things I whispered in her ear, oh my I like doin' what she likes Like running my fingers through her long hair Lightin' watermelon candles upstairs Lettin' them burn and holdin' her all night I like doin' what she likes

8. Where Are U Now by Skrillex and Diplo feat. Justin Bieber
I'm back on the Bieber bandwagon.  I was SO annoyed when he went crazy but thankfully he seems to be better.  I have a love/hate relationship with this song.  Sometimes it's too much techno but sometimes I like the beat.  I am excited about new music from him though.  Hopefully he'll go back to what he's good at.  Favorite lyric: I gave you the key when the door wasn't open, just admit it See, I gave you faith, turned your doubt into hoping, can’t deny it Now I’m all alone and my joys turned to moping Tell me, where are you now that I need you? 9. 22 by Taylor Swift
This will forever be one of my favorite T. Swift songs.  I just love her!  I'm turning 26 in 15 days so I felt like listening to this song over and over.  Let's be honest the message of this song is on point.  We really don't know what we want our lives to be like.  We are just living and loving every moment because life is short.  Favorite lyric: Yeah, We're happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way It's miserable and magical Oh, yeah Tonight's the night when we forget about the heartbreaks It's time Uh oh! OMG I'm obsessed with the new Hilary Duff album!  I even bought it at Target to get the bonus tracks.  I've been playing it daily!  So far this song has been my favorite.  I'm just SO happy that she is making a comeback.  I really hope a tour happens because I will definitely be there!  Favorite lyric: No more rain or shine Well, I guess this is goodbye I made a top ten list Of all the things I miss

Cooking Corner: Layered Pistachio Dessert

Since the 4th of July is only days away I thought I would share a recipe we make every year.  It doesn't fit the color scheme but it's really good!  It brings back so many childhood memories because my grandma would make this dessert at least once a week.  It honestly my favorite thing that my grandma makes.  It's the perfect summer dessert!  If you make this recipe send me pictures on Twitter @jerica_89.

What You'll Need:

1 1/2 cups flour

3/4 cup melted butter

1 cup nuts finely chopped

1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese

1 cup confectioner sugar

2 (8 ounce) packages pistachio pudding mix

3 cups milk

Directions:

Press flour, butter, and nuts into a 13" x 9" pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.  Allow to cool.

Beat Cool Whip, cream cheese and confectionery sugar with electric mixer; spread over cooled crust.

Beat pudding mix and milk well with electric mixer on low setting. Let mixture stand until set. Then carefully spread over cream cheese layer.

Cover and refrigerate for one hour. Slice into 2" x 2" pieces.

Store in refrigerator.

My Summer Essentials!

I'm SO glad that Summer is here!!!  It rained for two months straight.  I'm not even joking!!  Now that it has finally become hot outside I thought I would share my essentials that I must have with me.  Let me know what you must have!

Rucksack:

First up is a bag of some kind.  I personally prefer rucksacks because they are compact and not super bulky.  You can throw it over your shoulder and just go anywhere.  It fits everything you need and it's even better than a purse.  I've been loving mine!  Mine is actually a One Direction one.  I'm not ashamed!

Band-Aids:

This may seem like an odd essential but lately I have needed them A LOT!  These are good for any injury.  I got bad blisters and these band aids came in handy.  Also these are good for other people you are with who may get a cut or something.  Also yes mine are Disney Princesses!

Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is always a must!  I'm trying a new brand this year.  It's the Coppertone Sport.  I always buy the spray kind because it's easier and you don't miss any areas.  This one is supposed to be better with sweat so you can apply less often.  I haven't used it much so I'm not sure if that's true.  It definitely doesn't smell good though.

Body Spray:

Since my sunscreen isn't the best smelling I have a body spray.  Bath and Body Works not only had their annual sale BUT they also brought back old scents.  I FREAKED out when I saw Cucumber Melon.  I used this SO much as a kid and it's bringing back the memories.

Infused Water:

I don't really like drinking water but obviously it's important to stay hydrated.  My friend told me to buy an infused water bottle and I love it!  You can put any fruit you want in the middle section and it just slightly flavors your water.  I like using cherries or limes.  You can buy these at Walmart or Target.  You can also use a jug and fill a water bottle that you already own.

Headbands:

I cut my hair back in January and it's still a little too shorts for ponytails.  So I bought a bunch of headbands.  It keeps the hair off your face and you still look fashionable.  They are also not expensive which is nice.

Snack:

I'm trying to eat less candy so I've been eating pistachios instead.  They are just SO good!  They are healthy and full of protein.  I like the salted ones the best.  They are a bit pricey but it's the perfect snack anytime.

Book:

I love to read!  A book is great for the beach or on rainy days.  I just started The Girl On The Train and it's really good so far!  Be looking out for a review soon!

Bug Spray Fan:

The bugs have been TERRIBLE this year.  I got blisters because my bites were so bad!  I'm obsessed with my off clip on bug fan.  It actually works!  I've had mine for about 4 years now and I never get bitten when it's on.  I just clip it to my shorts or chair and I'm protected.  The best part is you don't even smell like bug spray.  I highly recommend this!

Weekly Obsession!

Today's obsession is a video!  My weekly obsession is...Evolution Of Michael Jackson by Pentatonix.  I have literally watched it 100 times and it's only been out for two days!  I don't even like Michael Jackson but somehow they have made me love him.  I have loved them since they were on The Sing Off.  They are completely acapella and sound AMAZING!  Check out their other stuff as well.

I got This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales.  The description says: Although you have a sensitive and caring soul, you often feel as though you’re misunderstood, which is why you’ll be able to relate with the main character in this compelling book! I've actually never heard of this book before.  It sounds interesting though.  I'm going to have to check it out.  I'll let you know if its any good!

10 Things That Make Me Happy

Lately when you turn on the news all you see is sadness.  It can be very depressing and make you feel unhappy.  I was trying to decide what I should blog about when an idea came to me.  Why don't I share things that make me happy?  We should be spreading love and happiness.  I want to know what makes you happy!  Also be sure to check out my new series idea and send me some topics!

1. Cupcakes

I mean do I really need an explanation?  I just can't ever say no!

2. One Tree Hill

This is honestly my favorite series of ALL TIME.  I've watched it over 50 times and I can't get enough.

3. Summer

I love being outside.  As a kid, I would be outside from 8 AM until 8 PM.  Life was so simple back then.  Now I have things to do but I get outside at least once a day.

4. Elephants

They are my spirit animal.  I just love them SO much!

5. Donuts

If I'm having a bad day this solves everything.  Especially if my grandma makes her homemade recipe.  I'm in heaven!

6. Glitter

This is very random I know.  I just love everything about it!

7. Concerts

This just takes music to a whole different level.  There's just something so thrilling about being in the same room as somebody you idolize.

8. Peace Signs

This has always been my thing for some reason.  I can't resist buying something if it has a peace sign.  Even my shower curtain is peace sign.

9. My Nieces

Being an Aunt is the best.  Even though they drive me crazy sometimes I still love them.

10. Reading

I love getting lost in other worlds.  It really expands your mind.

My OOTD: Baseball Game

Every year around this time the College World Series comes to my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.  I go every year and it's basically the kick off to summer.  Last night I went to a game so I thought I'd share my outfit!  If you want more like posts like this you can email me, tweet me, or leave a comment!

Outfit: I wore a light blue romper that had different colored flamingos on it.  I bought this for $7 from Delia's at the end of last year.  It was perfect for a game because they are super comfortable.

Shoes:  I wore my black sandals.  I got these last year from Walmart for $10.  They dress up every outfit but not too much.

Sunglasses:  I own LOTS of sunglasses!  I wore the ones the start out purple on top the slowly fade to green.  I'm pretty sure I got them from Target for $5.

Hair:  It was about 90 degrees yesterday so I did a messy top knot.  Then I added a black headband to keep all the baby hairs contained.

Weekly Obsession!

OMG you guys I've discovered my summer scent!  My weekly obsession is...Pink Sands from Yankee Candle!  I was out with my mom and while we were waiting for our table we decided to smell candles.  This was the first one I picked up and I fell in LOVE!!!  I like to describe it as a beachy summer pink lemonade.  Here is the actual description: Treat yourself to an exotic island escape with the beautiful mix of bright citrus, sweet florals and spicy vanilla in this scented candle. The perfect scent for escaping the winter blues or setting just the right mood any time of the year. Book Review: The Boy In The Striped Pajamas

I finished another book!  It's called The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne.  My friend told me I needed to read this book so I checked it out.  It was VERY good but VERY sad.  I knew a little bit about this because it's also a movie.

It is told through the eyes of Bruno who is a 9 year old German boy.  It is set during the Holocaust so if you don't like that I wouldn't read this.  After his dad gets a new job the entire family moves onto a concentration camp.  While out exploring, Bruno becomes friends with a boy on the other side of the fence.

I'll leave it there so nothing is ruined for you.  I really enjoyed this book plus it was a super easy read.  It gave a different perspective to what we know about that war.  Since it's told through a young boys point of view it really gave it a sort of innocence.  I'm too nervous to watch the movie because I'm not exactly sure how graphic it will be.  Overall, I would recommend checking this out.  Have you read this book?  Let me know your thoughts!

Easy Summer Nails

One of my favorite things about summer is painting my nails.  There are just SO many options!  Since it's a gloomy day out I decided to look for a cute but simple nail design on Pinterest.  Now normally the design is a total fail but not today!  This is super easy and perfect for any summer occasion.  It's also very customizable to your style.  I was slightly in a hurry so mine look a bit messy but you'll get the idea.  Send me pictures on Twitter so I can see what you did @jerica_89!

What You'll Need:

White polish

5 different colored polishes

A bobby pin

Clear Coat

Directions:

1.  Paint your nail white using two coats

2.  Decide what 5 colors you want to use.  I did Orange, Pink, Lavender, Light Blue, and Mint Green.  You can choose any you want.

3.  Bend a bobby pin straight and dip into one of the colors.  Dot only the top part of your nail.

4.  Repeat until all nails are complete.  Then add a clear coat.

Weekly Obsession!

I'm that person that ALWAYS has gum on me.  You just never know when you'll need it.  I like trying different flavors because I easily get bored.  This weeks obsession is....Juicy Fruit Starburst gum!  Juicy Fruit is a flavor I never get tired of so when I saw they paired up with my favorite candy I got excited.  They have Cherry and Strawberry which are my favorite Starburst flavors.  I've only tried the Cherry gum so far.  I love it!  It really does taste like a Cherry Starburst!!  The flavor lasts about 2-3 hours which I think is pretty good.  I was hesitant because it is sugar free but honestly you can't even tell.  This gum will be my go to for summer!

Cooking Corner: Butterfinger Cake

I have another recipe to share with you all.  This has been a favorite in my family for awhile now.  I can't believe I haven't posted it before.  It's called Butterfinger Cake.  I actually discovered this on Pinterest and we have became addicted!  It's SUPER easy to make.  This is good for any occasion but be warned it's highly addictive!  Tweet me pictures if you make it @jerica_89.

What You'll Need:

1 box yellow cake mix, plus ingredients to make the cake

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 jar Smucker's caramel ice cream topping

1 (8oz) tub Cool-Whip

4 regular sized Butterfinger candy bars, crushed

Directions:

Bake cake in a 9x13-inch pan according to direction on the package.

While cake is baking, mix milk and caramel topping until well blended. When the cake is done and while it's still hot, poke holes in it with a fork or straw. Pour milk mixture over the cake. Allow cake to cool completely.

Sprinkle two candy bars over cake. Spread Cool Whip over the top, then sprinkle the remaining candy bars on top. Chill.  Enjoy!

Four Things In My Bag:
1. Trident Cinnamon Gum-I always carry gum at all times.  This one just reminds me of my childhood.
2. Lemon & Honey Halls-My throat hurt a few weeks ago so I just threw the whole bag in there.
3. Bubbles-These are from my cousins wedding almost a year ago.  I clearly never clean my bag.
4. Camera-I never go anywhere without it.

Four Movies I've Watched More Than Once:
This is SO hard because I have over 200 movies!  I'll do my best!
1. 27 Dresses-This just such a cute romantic film.  I've watched it WAY too much!
2. Spanglish-This is by far one of my favorite Adam Sandler film.  He does an awesome job.
3. Rent-Musicals are my life!  This just has such a deeper meaning than most musicals do.
4. Chasing Liberty-I'm obsessed with Mandy Moore!  This story has some great life lessons.

Four Favorite Drinks:
1. Dr. Pepper-This is probably in my veins because I drink so much.
2. Fireball-I don't drink often but when I do this is my go to.
3. Redbull-This makes me extremely hyper but it does the job.
4. Kool-Aid-This is pretty much my whole childhood.

Four Random Things I'm Thinking About:
1. I hope it doesn't storm because they freak me out.
2. What should I wear to a BBQ this weekend?
3. Do I really need to go clothes shopping?
4. I need to book a hotel for the One Direction concert.

Four Places I've Travelled:
1. Miami-Can I please go back?  I sailed on a sailboat in the ocean!  It was SO cool!
2. Denver-We only stayed a weekend but it was gorgeous in the mountains.
3. San Francisco-I turned 17 there!  I highly recommend the wax museum.
4. New York-I was only 3 but we took a ferry out to the Statue of Liberty.  I'll never forget it.

Four Favorite Books:

1. The Divergent Trilogy-I finished the whole series in 2 days!  It's very good!
2. Gone Girl-I never read suspense books but I was totally hooked!
3. The Great Gatsby-I read this book in high school and it became an instant favorite.

Four TV Shows I'm Currently Watching:
1. Pretty Little Liars-If you've never seen this before you are missing out!  Go binge it on Netflix!!!
2. Devious Maids-This is my guilty pleasure.  It's just SO addicting!!
3. One Tree Hill-I've seen the whole series at least 50 times but I keep going back for more!
4. Numbers-This show is so interesting.  You never realize how important numbers are in life until you watch it.

Four Things I'm Excited For This Year:
1. My Birthday!
2. Seeing Taylor Swift in concert.
3. Going to baseball games.
4. Going back to school.

Weekly Obsession!

My sister has been raving about this drink for about 2 weeks now.  I just kept forgetting to try it until I saw the commercial.  It's the Nerds Slushie from Sonic!  They are SO good!  It has actual nerds candy mixed in the drink.  This is a genius idea!  As the candy starts to melt the slushie starts becoming a nerds flavor.  Be careful not to choke on a nerd because they do come through the straw.  I've only tried the Cherry flavor but there are more options.  I think I'll try Grape next.  I'm not sure if it's limited edition or not.  I hope not though!  Have you tried this drink?  Let me know!

Quiz Tuesday: Are You More Britney Spears Or Christina Aguilera?

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you are having an awesome start to June.  I'm very excited about today's quiz.  It's called Are You More Britney Spears Or Christina Aguilera?  If you checked out my May playlist you might know who I love most.  This was a huge 90's battle but I honestly liked both.  I'm very interested for the results!  You can take this quiz right here.  Be sure to share your results!

Baby Lips Peach Kiss Review

One thing I am constantly trying is lip balms.  For some reason my lips are always super dry.  I did talk about an eos review earlier this year but I felt like I had to reapply every hour or so.  While at Walgreens I decided to take the plunge and buy Baby Lips.

I chose Peach Kiss.  Why did I wait so long!  This stuff is SO amazing!  It goes on very smooth and doesn't leave your lips feeling waxy.  I experienced that with my eos one.  It's really moisturizing as well.  It lasts a long time too which I really like.  I feel like I need to go buy more.

This would be perfect for parents who don't want their kids wearing make up yet.  It is very lightly tinted and you can barely see it on.  It does have shimmer so if you aren't a fan of that try another flavor.  What do you think of Baby Lips?  Also leave me some other good lip balm suggestions.  I'm always looking for more!
